Setting the Standard Upcoming Event!

                                    Setting the Standard

Setting the Standard will be a back to school event hosted by a team of young adults. The projected event date is August 14th, 2011 at 4000 Covington Highway (The Crave Building).Participating young adults must be college students, college graduates, or young adults that are gainfully employed. The overall theme of the back-to-school event will be setting the standard. We will organize activities that youth can participate in (i.e. spoken word, singing, art, setting up, modeling, etc.). The entire event will be 2-3 hours long. We encourage attendees to bring youth (K-12). The performances will be family-friendly. We will have prominent fashion purveyors present showcasing their brands. Talented young students will have the opportunity to model, as well as grace the stage showcasing their amazing talents/abilities. In the spirit of back-to-school giving, we will avail ‘goodie bags’ to the students in attendance—they will consist of one spiral notebook, one pencil, one pen, one binder, and loose leaf paper, if the budget permits. The young adult team will help decorate the Crave building for the event, and will be responsible for cleaning it up afterwards :-). The goal of the event will be to provide a creative environment that fosters innovative community engagement, and service, in more ways than one! This will be a very entertaining, impactful, and spirit filled event! Hope to see you there!

There will be booths designated for mentorship registration. Ideally, this means two mentees per mentor. The mentors will be young community leaders, whose jobs will be to assist their mentees throughout the year, mainly by providing additional academic/emotional support. Mentors will be required to schedule a face-to-face event with both mentees once every 12 months (i.e. lunch, movies, game, etc.), and they are to keep a log of monthly phone conversations (12conversations per student). Students must be (11-17 years of age).

*ALL MENTORS MUST COMPLETE A BACKGROUND CHECK*
